Chess has become one of the more popular pastimes in recent times. Much of this is due to the enthusiasm of Ms. Caroline Ryan for the Game. Ms. Ryan started a Chess Club in our school four years ago and it has gone from strength to strength.
Recently, 32 player took part in the Ficheall Chess Tournament held in Gaelscoil Bhride. Boys and girls from first to sixth class played 6 games each in a packed hall as children from other local schools put their skills to the test.

There were two categories of play, Buds for beginners and Masters for those with a little more experience. The games were played in wonderful spirit and it was a joy to observe the concentration, endeavor and sportsmanship.

We congratulate all the children who took part and we look forward to many more games of chess in our school.
