This year we have such interest in football, we entered two U11 teams to play in the Cumann na mBunscol competition.

Our first day out saw our U11B team head to Borrisoleigh where they played Templemore and Holycross. The girls played four entertaining matches, winning two drawing one and losing one. This was enough to earn a place in the blitz final against Templemore. Despite some heroic play, the girls were narrowly beaten. However, this team was made up predominantly with girls from 4th Class, most of whom will be U11 again next year. This bodes well for the future and we look forward to seeing these girls progress and represent the Presentation for the next couple of years!

Our U11A team played their blitz in Durlas Og. As reigning champions, there was both pressure and expectation to do well again this year. The girls made light work of all four games they played deafeating Scoil Angela Ursuline, St. Oliver’s Clonmel, Presentation Clonmel and St. Michael’s Tipperary Town to earn their place in a county semi final.

The county semi final would see us play Gaelscoil Nenagh in an epic game that would be settled with the final kick of the match! In an ebb and flow encounter, Nenagh would lead for the majority of the time but never by more than a goal! With the clock in the red and losing by two points, the girls in wine pushed forward, knowing only a goal would be enough. And a goal from the boot of captain Kate Lydon is what they got!

The county final took place in Littleton on a cold and frosty morning. The opposition this year was New Inn NS and from the throw it it was New Inn who showed the upper-hand.  The girls in wine defended superbly and worked their socks off throughout. However they found scores hard to come by as New Inn pressed forward with power and skill. Two late goals from Abbygayle Ryan gave the crowd hope of a great revival but alas it was too little too late and New Inn were crowned champions.

We would like to congratulate both teams and mentors on a very enjoyable and positive football season. We look forward to more of the same next year!
