Recently our Volleyball team off to Kilkenny to take part in the Volleyball Regional Finals. The blitz took place in the impressive venue that is The Watershed.
For the past number of weeks, 44 girls had been training after school and during lunchtime to prepare for this blitz. We had two teams taking part and each player enjoyed time on the court.
The Watershed was a busy venue on the day with schools travelling from Churchhill, Fethard, Kilkenny City and beyond.
Unfortunately the fixture placed both our teams in the same group and up against each other in the very first game! The Presentation Pythons won this game by narrowly beating their good friends, the Presentation Panthers on a scoreline of 24 points to 16. Each game was 8 minutes long and this game was full of fun, skill and determination!
Both teams then played teams from St. Candice’s Primary School Kilkenny. The Panthers won two of the three games they played to finish an impressive second in the group.
The Pythons won all three games, topping the group and qualifying for the Regional Final where they would play Holy Trinity NS, Fethard. The final was extremely competitive with both teams leading at various stages of the game. When the whistle sounded after the eight minutes, nobody was sure who was in front. Thankfully Presentation Pythons had squeezed out a 2 point lead to win the Regional Final and therefore qualify for the National Finals which will take place in the magnificent UL Sports Arena on Thursday, 2nd March.
The day ended with a trip to McDonald’s for some well deserved lunch.
We wish the team and their coaches the very best of luck as they endeavour to go one step further than last year when they were beaten in the All Ireland Final. Here’s hoping!!
