On Wednesday, our two Volleyball teams headed off to Kilkenny to take part in the Volleyball Regional Finals. The blitz took place in the impressive venue that is The Watershed.
For the past number of weeks, 40 girls had been training after school and during lunchtime to prepare for this blitz. We had two teams taking part and each player enjoyed time on the court.
The Watershed was a busy venue on the day with schools travelling from Dunamggin, Fethard, Kilkenny City and beyond.
Presentation Pythons won their first two games and drew their third against a very skillful Dunamaggin team.
The Panthers won all three games, topping their group on 9 points.
This meant that both teams qualified for the semi final stage. Unfortunately both teams were drawn against each other to play in the semi final with the Pythons coming out on top and progressing to the Regional Final.
The final was a tense affair as both teams chased down the winning target of 21. Heartbreakingly it was not to be our day as Dunamaggin won out in the end.
While losing a final is never easy, the girls can be very proud of their efforts.
We thank Kieran Healy, Ciara Fanning and Karen Bohan for all their efforts in preparing the teams and coaching the girls since the start of the year.
The traditional trip to McDonald’s did help bring some smiles back to the faces of our sports stars!
