Our school community was filled with warmth, laughter and love last Friday as we welcomed over 250 grandparents and special guests to Presentation Primary School for our much-anticipated Grandparents Day.
The day began with a beautiful prayer service, where we took a quiet moment to reflect and give thanks. Candles were gently lit in remembrance of those who could not be with us, creating a thoughtful and meaningful start to the occasion.
Children from every class level played a central role in the celebration. Through artwork, poetry and storytelling, they expressed just how much their grandparents mean to them. Their words were heartfelt and genuine, capturing the deep bond shared across generations.

A highlight of the morning was a visit from one of our grandparents, Mattie Ryan, who brought us back in time with stories of his own primary school days in the 1950s—long before electricity reached his classroom! His tales had everyone captivated, especially the hilarious account of children making a quick escape through the windows when a substitute teacher arrived. There was laughter right across the hall as young and old alike imagined such scenes.
Our wonderful school choir brought the formal proceedings to a joyful close with a lively performance of Singing in the Rain, leaving smiles all around.

Afterwards, grandparents were invited to visit classrooms, where they proudly viewed their grandchildren’s work and posed for plenty of photos to mark the occasion. A display of old photographs also proved extremely popular, sparking memories and conversations throughout the day.
We were blessed with glorious sunshine, allowing everyone to relax and enjoy the occasion even more. Our Parents’ Association kindly provided tea, coffee and a delicious selection of treats for our visitors, while the children enjoyed ice pops in the warm weather.
We are absolutely delighted with how the day unfolded. It was a celebration of family, connection and shared history—values that are so important in our school community. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who helped make the day so special, particularly our grandparents for joining us and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
